This Privacy Policy explains how the Pinpoint mobile game ("Pinpoint", "the app") handles information when you use it. "We", "us" and "our" refer to the developer of Pinpoint, who is responsible for the processing described here.
Pinpoint is a geography game. You see street-level imagery from somewhere in the world and guess the location on a map. By using the app you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use Pinpoint.
When you open Pinpoint, it signs you in automatically with an anonymous account. Everything we store is linked to that account, not to your real identity.
| Data | What it is | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Anonymous player ID | A random identifier created by Firebase Authentication on first launch. | To keep your profile, scores and challenges together. |
| Username | A random name such as "Explorer4821", which you can change in your profile. | To show you on leaderboards and in challenges. |
| Profile statistics | Total score, games played, best score, account creation and update times. | To show your progress on your profile. |
| Leaderboard entries | Your username, final score, game mode and the time the game finished. | To rank players on daily, weekly, monthly and all-time leaderboards. |
| Challenge data | The challenge code, its rounds (the locations played), the creator's username and score, and each player's score and finish time. | So you can challenge friends to play the same rounds and compare results. |
| Technical data | IP address, device and operating system type, and app version, as sent with any internet request. | Processed by our service providers to deliver content and keep the service secure. |
Your individual guesses during a normal game are used on your device to calculate your score. They are not uploaded, except that a challenge stores which locations were played.
We use the information above only to:
We do not use your information for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Turkey, we rely on these legal bases: performance of a contract (providing the game you asked to use) and our legitimate interests (running fair leaderboards and keeping the service secure).
Because your username is public, please do not use your real name or other personal information as your username.
Pinpoint uses the following services. Each receives your IP address and basic device information as part of normal internet requests, and processes it under its own privacy policy.
| Service | Provider | What it does in Pinpoint | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore | Google LLC | Creates your anonymous account and stores your profile, leaderboard entries and challenges. | Firebase privacy · Google |
| Mapillary | Mapillary AB (Meta Platforms) | Provides the street-level 360° imagery shown in each round. | Mapillary privacy |
| OpenStreetMap tiles | OpenStreetMap Foundation | Provides the map you use to place your guess. | OSMF privacy |
| Google Fonts | Google LLC | Downloads the app's fonts the first time they are needed. | Google Fonts privacy |
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our players or ourselves.
You can remove all of this by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling Pinpoint.
We keep your profile, leaderboard entries and challenges while Pinpoint is operating, so rankings and challenges stay complete. We do not currently delete them automatically.
Uninstalling the app does not delete your online data. Your account is anonymous, so after uninstalling you can no longer reach it from the app, but your username and scores stay on the leaderboards.
To delete your data, email us at ffatihsafak@gmail.com with the subject "Pinpoint data deletion". Include your current username, shown on your Profile screen. We will delete your profile, leaderboard entries and challenge attempts within 30 days and confirm by email.
All data moves over encrypted HTTPS connections. Database access rules allow only your own account to write your profile and challenge results. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Our service providers may store and process data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, these transfers rely on safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
Pinpoint is a general-audience game and is not directed at children under 13, or under the minimum age set by the law where they live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because Pinpoint uses anonymous accounts and asks for no contact details, the information involved is minimal. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a username, contact us and we will delete it.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR (EU and UK), Turkey's KVKK (Law No. 6698) or the CCPA (California), including the right to:
To use any of these rights, email us using the address in Section 12. Because your account is anonymous, we may ask for your username so we can find your data. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
We may update this policy as Pinpoint changes. We will change the date at the top of this page. If the changes are significant, we may also let you know in the app.
